A little more than a year ago crypto was skyrocketing. One bitcoin was valued over €16,7k in December 2017 and there was this gold fever all around with these new digital assets that was finally reaching the masses. A year later, and the bubble fully exploited, bitcoin felt below €2,8k.
This might have seen the end of blockchain, but we prefer to think after a storm comes the calm. In Blockchers case, the foundations of the technology which, digital currencies aside, has come to stay and revolutionize the way businesses processes and industries were conceived in the twentieth century.
Hypes have a positive aspect, which is usually what really remains after the crash. The underlying technology of the bitcoin, the blockchain, is Blockchers’ focus. Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs), let’s be appropriate calling them, are our core.
Technology disruption usually brings a very important issue hand in hand, its adoption. DLTs adoption are relatively well related to corporates, with initiatives like the corporate blockchains or payment networks in banking. Startups and smaller players focused in technology, are also there, an evidence is the ever-growing ecosystem of startups working already with DLTs.
About SMEs
The point, our point, are the traditional players, SMEs. Why would a family-run business, a food-processing company, even a farm or a small lawyer buffet use DTLs? Where is the benefit? And the answer might not be different if we switch DLT by big data, AI or whatever buzzword you want: because it fits for their purpose, because it solves a business pain, you name it.
The reduction of intermediaries, the trustiness of the systems and all the usual benefits promised by DLTs will mean better run businesses, significant savings and improvements in efficiency.
This is where we are now in Blockchers. We will foster the adoption of DLTs in SMEs by offering techy startups up to €50k, equity-free, if they build a use case of a DLT in a SME. The use-case SME will benefit from a free trial of a technology that will provide an evidence on how DLTs can make their business better. At the same time the startup will be enrolled in a programme with other European fellows, will have access to a free infrastructure for deploying the use case, get free training and access to a number of perks. Applications will be open till the 27th of May via F6S.
